Before and After Comparison: Help Us Decide

We all know the feeling: you finish a small interior upgrade, step back, and think, ?Okay? is this actually better, or am I just excited because I touched something?? That?s exactly why before-and-after comparisons are the lifeblood of our community. They settle debates, spark new ideas, and?let?s be honest?sometimes start fresh arguments in the comments.

Today, we?re hosting a friendly ?help us decide? discussion. Not a formal guide. Not a ?do it this way or you?re wrong? post. Just a real-world look at a few popular interior changes where the before often has fans, the after has fans, and everyone has strong opinions.

So imagine we?re all standing around a car at a weekend meet, pointing, debating, and laughing. We?ll walk through a few common before/after upgrades, talk pros and cons, and figure out what fits different styles and priorities. Then you tell us: which ?after? is truly an upgrade? and which ones should stay ?before??

Option 1: Seat Upholstery Refresh (Cloth → Leather/Leatherette or New Cloth)

What changes: Worn factory cloth becomes a fresh reupholster, leather/leatherette swap, or even a premium cloth upgrade (hello, plaid and performance fabrics).

Why people love the ?after?:

Why some of us defend the ?before? (or prefer cloth):

Works best for: Daily drivers, families, rideshare folks, and anyone tired of stains or frayed bolsters?plus the ?OEM+? crowd who wants it to look factory? but nicer.

Community voice: ?I swapped to leatherette because kids. Zero regrets. But my buddy calls it ?fancy vinyl? every time he gets in.?

Option 2: Ambient Lighting (None → Subtle OEM-Style Glow vs. Full-On RGB)

What changes: Adding LED strips in footwells, door cards, center console, or dash trim?either a clean, low-key white/amber look or customizable RGB.

Pros of the ?after?:

Cons (and the classic disagreement):

Works best for: Night drivers, show builds, and anyone who wants the cabin to feel special after sunset.

Community voice: ?I did warm white in the footwells only. My friend did rainbow door strips and a star headliner. We both swear ours is ?cleaner.??

Option 3: Steering Wheel Upgrade (Stock → Rewrap, Thicker Grip, Flat-Bottom, or Alcantara)

What changes: Rewrapping the wheel in leather/Alcantara, adding a thicker contour, changing stitching color, or swapping to a sportier shape.

Why the ?after? feels so satisfying:

Potential downsides:

Works best for: Enthusiast drivers, anyone restoring a worn wheel, and ?driver?s car? people who care about tactile feel as much as looks.

Option 4: ?Delete the Piano Black? (Gloss Black Trim → Satin, Matte, Brushed, or Wrapped)

What changes: Replacing or wrapping scratch-prone piano black trim with matte/satin finishes, carbon-look wraps, brushed aluminum, or color-matched accents.

Pros of the ?after?:

Cons and points of debate:

Works best for: Anyone annoyed by micro-scratches, detailers who want an easier life, and the ?clean cabin? crowd.

Community voice: ?I can?t believe I defended piano black for so long. The day I wrapped it in satin, my interior stopped looking like a crime scene of fingerprints.?
